Site Licensing

Solaris Sites
Departments or other groups at UIUC that have a substantial number of Sun workstations can purchase blanket software licensing from CITES. Rather than paying the yearly software maintenance cost (currently $150) per machine, sites pay a flat rate (currently $4800) that covers an unlimited number of machines.
Benefits
  • Software: Each machine that is part of the site is entitled to all the Sun software for which we have a site license, listed in the general campus ScholarPAC documentation.
  • Technical Support: The site's designated contact person can call Sun Technical Support during normal buisness hours for help with software usage, problems, or bugs. The site contact can also access Sun's online database of patches, reported bugs, how-tos, white papers, etc. via a Web browser.
  • Media: Each site gets its own CD for Solaris, compilers, and other Sun site-licensed software.
  • Reduced Cost for Manuals: Optionally, Sun sites can purchase the set of all hardcopy Solaris manuals published during the year for a reduced cost. This is an optional extra-cost item.
Responsibilities
  • Site Contact: The site must designate a qualified contact person who will be the site's first line of technical support. In addition, site members obtain software (CDs and associated installation documentation) from their site contact rather than from the CITES Workstation Services Group campuswide contact.
  • Serial Numbers: Every year, the site contact must give CITES a list of serial numbers of Sun workstations that are part of the site.
