Solaris for Personal Use
Through the Micro Order Center, UIUC faculty, staff, and students can now purchase Sun workstations for personal use.

As with UIUC Suns, individual machines come with a license to run the current version of the operating system. An individual who purchases a machine that is not preinstalled will need to buy a copy of the Solaris CD at the time of purchase. CITES can loan CDs and CD drives to Sun workstation owners on campus, but does not loan CDs and equipment for off-campus installations.

Individuals who need ScholarPAC software (e.g. Sun compilers) can also pay a $150 one-year ScholarPAC fee at the time of the workstation purchase. That entitles them to install any campus-licensed ScholarPAC software during a one-year period. Note that ScholarPAC software cannot be used for commercial purposes. Also, the UIUC site license requires that individuals agree to remove all ScholarPAC software if their association with UIUC ends (e.g. through graduation, change of jobs, etc). Individuals needing additional software or upgrades after the one-year period can purchase another year of ScholarPAC software coverage.

The compiler software can be downloaded from the Web or installed from CD. The required software license file must be obtained from the CITES Point of Contact.
