Offsite Profile Example

Pricing for offsite storage follows much the same pattern as the Basic and Enhanced profiles.

In our previous examples, the customer would be charged $56.00 for TSM server usage. For simplicity's sake, we will ignore numbers of revisions and the fluctuations in price it causes. In this example, we will assume that only one backup has been made and that there will be no changes to the stored data (meaning that the customer is being charged for the current revision). This is the base rate for offsite storage (for the main storage at DCL). The customer would then be charged an additional $56.00 for the offsite copies since there is one offsite copy of a file for every file stored onsite.

Determining the cost of offsite storage, then, is relatively straightforward. While the amount of data backed up will still fluctuate over the course of a month, the fluctuation is constant. If a file is stored onsite, it exists offsite. If a file does not exist onsite (as when an old revision expires), it does not exist offsite. Consequently, the cost of one month of Basic+ or Enhanced+ storage will be higher, but based on a graduated formula.
