Application RestrictionsThe Walkup Computing service allows most common network applications. If you've logged in through QuickConnect, these include Web browsing, SSH, secure email, and others. If you connect through QuickConnect, you won't be allowed to use certain insecure services, explained in UIUCnet QuickConnect and Security. The VPN server allows use of additional, less secure services, such as telnet, FTP, RealAudio/Video, insecure email, and others. Resource LimitsThe Walkup service is intended for use as a simple way to access the Internet from various locations around campus, for library research or other relatively brief uses. It is not intended as a replacement for a full-service office or laboratory workstation. Although there is no specific rate limiting or download quantity limiting set on Walkup Computing at this time, CITES may contact anyone who abuses the privilege of Walkup Computing and may remove their access to the service. |
