PasswordVault for Linux
Introduction
There are two versions of PasswordVault that you can use with Linux computers.
- PasswordVault for Linux
PasswordVault for Linux is installed onto a particular desktop computer and is run from that location. If you use one computer exclusively, this option is simplest for you.
- PasswordVault2Go
PasswordVault2Go is installed onto removable media such as an iPod, Zip drive, or USB drive. If you use different computers frequently, you will appreciate the portability of this option.
Installing PasswordVault on your desktop machine
To install PasswordVault software on your desktop machine:
- Download PasswordVault for Linux from the
Software WebStore.
- Extract the folder to your Desktop using File Roller or another extraction program.
- Next, make
PasswordVault_Linexecutable.To do this in Red Hat Linux:
- Right-click the application
- Select
Properties - Check the
Executecheckbox in thePermissionspanel
OR - Type
chmod 755 PasswordVault_Lin
- Double-click the PasswordVault_Lin icon to install PasswordVault.
Installing PasswordVault2Go on your portable media drive
- Download PasswordVault2Go from the Software
WebStore.
Note that PasswordVault2Go is available only from the PasswordVault area of the WebStore. To download PasswordVault2Go, you'll need to put PasswordVault in your WebStore cart, then choose PasswordVault2Go from the download screen at checkout.
- Attach a portable media drive to your computer. Portable
media drives include Zip disks, iPods, and USB drives (also
called USB memory sticks, JetFlash, USB flash drives, and
flash memory).
- Extract the folder to your portable media drive using File Roller or another extraction program.
- Next, make
PasswordVault2Go_Linexecutable.To do this in Red Hat Linux:
- Right-click the application
- Select
Properties - Check the
Executecheckbox in thePermissionspanel
OR - Type
chmod 755 PasswordVault2Go_Lin
- Double-click the
PasswordVault2Go_Linfile to run PasswordVault2Go.See the user manual (installed with the program) for tips on reducing the amount of space PasswordVault2Go takes on your portable media drive.
Note: PasswordVault2Go will create a data folder on your removable media device. If you move the PasswordVault2Go application, you must move the data folder with it or you will be forced to re-enter all your information.
Using PasswordVault
After you install PasswordVault or PasswordVault2Go,you can either Set up PasswordVault or Synchronize PasswordVault if you plan to use it with PasswordVault2Go.
