Windows Antivirus

VirusScan is the site-licensed software provided at no charge for campus Windows users by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

VirusScan 8.5i is used on the most recent Windows operating systems, and is the only product officially supported by the CITES Help Desk and CITES Security.

VirusScan 8.5i

Available since January 2007.

Supported on:

Windows Vista, XP, 2000, NT 4, and Windows Server 2003

Installation:

Download the VirusScan 8.5i package from the CITES Software WebStore. Double-click the installation file and follow the prompts.

About upgrading:
If you're upgrading from a previous version of VirusScan or from a conflicting antivirus product, the installation will include windows that either ask permission to remove conflicting software or offer to keep settings from older editions of VirusScan.

You will need to accept the removal of any conflicting antivirus software that was found on your computer in order for VirusScan 8.5i to install correctly.

CITES recommends that you should not keep older settings and allow VirusScan 8.5i to install as configured.

Use:

VirusScan 8.5i automatically scans your system at prearranged times and updates itself over the network. You don't need to change its configuration to use it; you can install it and leave it alone if you wish.
