ANAG Charter

The Academic Network Advisory Group (ANAG) is comprised of a subset of the associate deans or others identified by the deans to work on the campus network planning process. The membership advises the CIO, on the advice and review of the Provost.

Goals

First, while each college establishes its own building priorities and approaches to addressing space and other associated issues, ANAG reviews and vets priorities that go across colleges and advises the CIO within the priorities set for each college regarding which buildings are upgraded in what order over the life of the project.

Second, the group also reviews and advises on issues that may affect meeting upgrade deadlines, especially those that depend on prioritization or timeframes determined by others (for example, in relation to F&S-related deferred maintenance or capital projects) or those affected by major space or facilities issues. (Example: inadequate building power may require a much larger project than is needed for the network upgrades alone.)

Third, the group advises the CIO where additional resources or priorities change due to special cases, whether because of extreme space limitations affecting Communications Equipment Room (CER) design or other factors.

Finally, the group plays a key role advising the CIO and Provost if there are significant changes to the timing or requirements for the project.

Reporting

The group meets quarterly or more frequently, at the discretion of the chair or the CIO. The group documents its advice, including any rationales, as part of an open-campus process that informs and appropriately consults the associates deans, deans, and the campus community. The CIO reviews the progress of the group with the Provost and with college representatives on a regular basis.
