Annual NetID Password Expiration

CITES > passwords > annual NetID password expiration

For security purposes, CITES requires you to change your NetID password at least once a year.

After a year, your NetID password will expire. A few weeks before your password expiration date, you will be notified by email; you will also begin to see warning messages on web pages where you are required to use your NetID password.

You can change your NetID password at the Password Home Page.

If you allow your NetID password to expire, you will not be able to access any of the services that require your NetID and NetID password. [For a list of these services, look on the Your Network ID (NetID) page.]

Note: CITES Dialup is one of the services that requires your NetID and NetID password. If you allow your NetID password to expire, you will not be able to dial in to the campus network.

If you need to change your NetID password from off campus after it has expired, you may do one of the following:

  • Use another Internet service provider (ISP) to access the web page where you can change your NetID password (http://netidpassword.uiuc.edu), or
  • Print the Password Change Form (available in HTML and PDF formats), fill it out, and fax it to the CITES Help Desk (the fax number is listed on the form).
