2. Install and update antivirus software

Keeping your antivirus software up to date is critical, as outdated software will not recognize new viruses. UIUC students can download McAfee Antivirus software from the CITES Software WebStore at no charge using your NetID and NetID password.

3. Install and update anti-spyware software

Spyware can produce many of the same effects as viruses, and it needs its own kind of preventative software. The most recent version of McAfee VirusScan software has an anti-spyware component, so if you are using VirusScan 8.5i for Windows or 8.5 for Macs or better, you do not need to install additional software.

If you have a version of McAfee VirusScan older than 8.5i (Windows) or 8.5 (Macs), you can update your antivirus/antispyware software from the CITES Software WebStore at no charge using your NetID and NetID password.
