Bring your own laptop computer to libraries and other areas on campus. Plug in, authenticate, and you're on the Internet! Walkup Computing allows authenticated access to the network at many locations around the campus.
If your computer has an Ethernet adapter card and works on any network, it will probably work with Walkup Computing. For most people, no special configuration is necessary, thanks to automatic network identification. If you have an older laptop, you may need a PCMCIA card with an Ethernet adapter in it. You will also need a data cable with a plug called an RJ45 connector. It looks similar to a telephone connector, but it is not. Do not use a telephone cord!
Just plug in to the network jack and open a web browser; then visit a web site. You'll see a login screen asking for your NetID and NetID password. Enter these, click the login button, and you are instantly on the network.
