Remote Access Services

Students living off-campus can remotely dial in to the network using UIUCnet Dialup services at no charge. Another option is UIUCnet Premier, a premium dialup service available for a monthly charge. Both UIUCnet Dialup and UIUCnet Premier require configuration before you use the service for the first time.

Generally speaking, dialup access is less expensive but significantly slower than higher-speed options. You may wish to choose an outside Internet Service Provider (ISP) if you wish to connect remotely at higher speed (provided by DSL or broadband cable, for example). Some private housing options offer high-speed connections, either included in rent or for an extra fee.
