A major computer virus outbreak caused delays in campus email delivery during the last few days. The outbreak is continuing, but CITES has taken steps to enable the campus email delivery system to deal with the tremendous volume of email that was caused by the virus. Campus email delivery is now returning to normal. The two most important things of which you need to be aware:
We have weathered the virus better than many other institutions thanks to recently installed campus-level virus-filtering mechanisms. These mechanisms stopped the virus from propagating through the campus email system and crippling the campus network. To give you some idea of the magnitude of the outbreak, over five percent of all email in over 40 countries was infected with the virus. For the most current information on the campus email system, please go to the CITES Status of Services page. |
