Increasing Your Effective Email Quota

This page describes how to use NetFiles to archive email and thus free up space in your inbox.

My email quota is full. What can I do?

So you've filled your email quota, and can't delete messages because they are all part of a current project. Solution: Sign up for a CITES NetFiles account. It's just that simple.

Because your NetFiles account is separate from your email account, you can use it for long-term storage while keeping your email quota free for current messages.

Signing up is easy and every NetFiles account comes with a 500 MB quota. To sign up for an account, see our quick start guide, Getting Started with CITES NetFiles. Once you have a NetFiles account, follow the steps below to archive your old email messages.

  1. Use your email client to create a backup of the email messages you wish to archive.
  2. Click on the Upload button
  3. Click Browse.
  4. Locate your file and click Open.
  5. Click OK to copy the file to NetFiles.

You can also free up your email quota by sending links to files stored in NetFiles instead of sending them as email attachments (see Using CITES NetFiles Instead of Email Attachments for details).
