Managing Your Files

This page describes how to manage files in NetFiles.

Uploading files

Uploading files means that you are adding files to your NetFiles space. To copy a file from your computer's hard drive or other storage device:

  1. Log in to CITES NetFiles on the Web and click the Upload button upload button in the top toolbar.
  2. If you would like upload your file(s) to a specific directory, click on the name of the directory.
  3. If you would like to upload more than one file at a time, select the number of files you'd like to upload (up to 20) from the Number of files to upload dropdown menu.
  4. Click the Browse button located next to one of the File text boxes. In the new window that opens, locate and select your file and then click Open.
  5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have selected all the files you wanted to upload.
  6. If you would like to replace an existing file with the version you are uploading, check the box next to Overwrite file if it already exists.
  7. Click OK to upload your files.
  8. If you are finished working in NetFiles, you may log out as soon as your file has finished uploading by clicking on the Logout link in the left navigation.

Downloading or viewing files

When you're ready to edit a file, follow these instruction to save it to your computer:

  1. Log in to CITES NetFiles on the Web and click on the name of the file you wish to download.
  2. Depending on the type of file and the behavior of your web browser, the file will either open in a new browser window or download directly to your computer.
    • You may be prompted to choose whether to open or save the file. Choose the save option to download a copy of the file to your computer. To view the file, choose open.
    • If the file you wish to download was displayed in a new browser window, click File > Save As to download the file for editing.

Remember, when you download a file and edit it, the changes apply only to the version saved on your local computer. For the latest version to appear on NetFiles, you must upload the edited file.

Creating new directories

To create a new directory, or folder, click on the New Directory button new directory icon. Enter a name for the directory in the Directory Name text box and click OK.

Deleting files and directories

To delete any file or directory, click on the corresponding Delete button delete icon to move it to your Trash. Files in the Trash directory are still counted against your quota. To permanently delete the file or directory and regain storage space, you must empty your Trash by clicking on the Empty Trash link empty trash link in the left navigation.

Moving and copying files and directories

Moving

  1. Check the box next to the file or directory you wish to move and click the Move button move button on the toolbar.
  2. Click the Browse button, click on the link for the location to which you wish to move the file or directory, and then click OK to select it.
  3. Click OK to move the file or directory to the new location. NetFiles automatically takes you to the new location of the file or directory.
  4. Click the Up button up button to move back to your home directory.

Copying

  1. Check the box next to the file or directory you wish to move and click the Copy button copy button on the toolbar.
  2. Click the Browse button, click on the link for the location to which you wish to copy the file or directory, and then click OK to select it.
  3. Click OK to copy the file or directory to the new location. NetFiles automatically takes you to the new location of the file or directory.
  4. Click the Up button up button to move back to your home directory.

Bookmarking a directory

To bookmark a directory, click on the name of the directory you wish to bookmark and then click on the Bookmark button bookmark button to create a bookmark named after the directory in the left navigation.
