Backups with CITES NetFiles
This page describes how to use CITES NetFiles to back up your data.
Single File Backup
For simple backups of only one or two files (e.g., term papers, research data, and the like), the CITES NetFiles web interface is fairly convenient. Simply follow the instructions for uploading a file and you're done. To restore the backup to your local computer, just download the file from NetFiles. You may wish to create a directory that you use strictly to backup your files.
Larger Backups
For larger backup jobs (e.g., folders or web directories), you will probably want to use your operating system's WebDAV client. This will allow you to move the whole folders or directories rather than specifying each individual file.
- Windows: WebFolders or WebDrive
- Macintosh: Goliath
- Unix/Linux: Cadaver
You might also consider using software to package and compress many files into a single archive file that can be uploaded to your NetFiles account. Software is available based on your operating system, for example:
- Windows: WinZip
- Macintosh: Stuffit
- Unix/Linux: tar
