Massmail Requirements and LimitationsMassmail provides a convenient web interface to submit and distribute email to large campus audiences. Any student, faculty, or staff member of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign can request to send Massmail. The following items are required to send Massmail:
Massmail delivery is not guaranteed to reach all individuals on campus immediately, since some people may check email infrequently or irregularly, while others may not have an email address. In addition, Massmail has been constructed to deliver messages only to certain broad categories of students, staff, or faculty, and so some campus members who do not fall into these categories may not receive Massmail messages. Finally, occasional system glitches may prevent information from reaching the full audience in a timely manner. See the Massmail Frequently Asked Questions for more information. Audience and CostsThe cost of a Massmail depends on the selected audience. Messages can be sent to one or more of the following five campus audiences. Each category is an "all or nothing" option:
If your message needs to go to a narrower audience than one of these categories (e.g., not all Undergraduate Students, but just first-year undergrads), consider Targeted Massmail or other options for sending bulk emails (see the page "Massmail FAQs"). ApprovalEach Massmail must be approved by a designated University or campus administrative office before it is sent. Only an office that has jurisdiction over the entire Urbana-Champaign campus, or in some cases, the whole University, can approve a Massmail mailing. The following administrative offices can approve Massmail messages:
