Role: Database Administrator
Research Programmer or Visiting Research Programmer - Oracle Database Administrator
Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES) is looking for a full-time Research Programmer or Visiting Research Programmer—this is an entry-level Database Administrator position in the Production Application Group (PAG). This position supports high-availability production applications and system environments built on Oracle 10g. This position will also assist in supporting internal development efforts that involve the Oracle RDBMS.
The successful candidate will install, configure, tune, troubleshoot, and manage daily operations of enterprise level Oracle databases. They will participate in planning and implementing data backup and disaster recovery as needed. They will solve and work with vendor engineering support to troubleshoot problems in databases and applications. The position will have regular work hours, but will also participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree
- Familiarity with the Oracle RDBMS
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrated IT skills and aptitude
- Attention to detail
- A demonstrated ability to learn new technologies
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience supporting enterprise level production systems
- Database design experience
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager
- Oracle training experience including accredited classes
- A wide breadth of IT knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of Unix or Linux
- Familiarity with computer networking concepts and network devices
- Experience with SQL and PL/SQL
