About the Use of Your Social Security NumberThe University of Illinois may request your Social Security number (SSN) as a means to uniquely identify your records within the UIUC Electronic Directory and to process your request for access to University computer systems and online resources. While in many cases, we are able to avoid requesting your SSN, situations exist where you may be asked to supply your SSN in order that you obtain an entry in the UIUC Electronic Directory and access to University computing resources. Once the underlying record systems are replaced this requirement will be eliminated. The University will not disclose an individual's SSN without the consent of the individual to anyone outside the University except as mandated by law. Your SSN will be used within this system only as a means to uniquely identify your records. The University of Illinois is working to minimize the use of Social Security numbers within its business processes.
