This page documents known compatibility issues:
- with the CITES Express
Email web interface located at https://express.cites.uiuc.edu
- between CITES Express Email and Windows or Mac desktop
email clients.
Issues with the web interface
Using the web interface and a desktop email
client at the same time
Accessing your CITES Express Email account through a desktop email
client (for example, Outlook, Mail, or Thunderbird) and the Express
Email web interface at the same time can cause some
of your messages to be deleted in rare cases.
Remember to always quit your desktop mail application before logging
in to the Express Email web interace. Similarly, you should always
log out from the web interface before opening your desktop
email client. If you have your desktop email client open
while accessing your Express webmail, you risk having some of your
mail deleted permanently.
Internet Explorer 5.2 on OS X does not allow file attachments
Due to a bug in Internet Explorer 5.2 on OS X, file attachments cannot
be made to messages composed in the web interface for CITES Express
Email. This bug impacts file uploads in general for users of Internet
Explorer on OS X. Users of Internet Explorer on OS X may wish to change
to a different browser, such as Safari, Firefox, or Mozilla. Those with
CITES NetFiles accounts
can also send a URL to a file instead of using an email attachment.
Issues with Windows software
No compatibility issues have been reported between
Express Email and Windows operating systems or Windows
versions of desktop email clients. However, please be aware that
accessing your Express Email account from the Express Email web interface
and a desktop email client at the same time can cause some of your
email to be deleted. See the Using the web
interface and a desktop email client at the same time item
above.
Issues with Mac software
Express Email has some compatibility issues with
Mac operating systems and software. The primary incompatibility
has to do with the security components of Express
Email. Other issues are caused by incompatibilities
between the Mac OS and Eudora. In general, the older
the version of the Mac OS you are using, the less
likely it will be that you can successfully use Express
Email.
Please select the version of the Mac OS that you are running from
the list below and then read about the issues which affect that version
of the operating system. If you are unsure which version of the Mac
OS you are running, see Which
Operating System Are You Using?
Also, please be aware that accessing your Express Email account
from the Express Email web interface and a desktop email client at
the same time can cause some of your email to be deleted. See the Using
the web interface and a desktop email client at the same time item
above.
