Accessing WebBoard with Outlook Express (PC)
This tutorial
explains how to configure and use Outlook Express on a PC.
How to Configure
STEP 1
Under the Outlook Express Tools menu, select Accounts...

STEP 2
In the window that opens, click Add
and select News... from the pop-up menu.

STEP 3
In the Internet Connection Wizard, enter your name and email
address, if requested. Click the right arrows at the bottom of the window until you are asked for your NNTP server. Type webboard.cet.uiuc.edu. Be sure to check the box in front of "My
news server requires me to log on."

STEP 4
Use the right arrow in the bottom of the window to move through
the rest of the set-up process. When you are asked for your account name and
password, use your WebBoard login and WebBoard password. If you are working
from your own computer, you can click the "Remember password" box. Otherwise,
you will need to enter your WebBoard password each time that you start a new WebBoard
session from Outlook Express. (Do NOT choose this option if you are working
from a shared, or public computer.) Click Finish.

How to Use
STEP 1
Once you have completed the configuration steps above,
you should see the WebBoard server listed in your folders window.

STEP 2
Right-click on the WebBoard server directory in your
Folders list and select Newsgroups... from the
pop-up menu that appears.

STEP 3
This will open a list of newsgroups that you can access from
WebBoard. Each newsgroup should represent a class that you are enrolled in that is using WebBoard. If any of your courses are not present on this list, check with your professor. It's possible that newsreader access has not been enabled. If you are using WebBoard in more than one class, the newsgroups
may show up in one long alphabetical list -- unsorted by course.

STEP 4
Click on the name of each newsgroup that you want to participate
in and click Subscribe.

STEP 5
Each of the newsgroups that you selected should appear
in your Folders list on the left side of the window under the WebBoard server
name. Clicking on the newsgroup name will give you access to all of
the
messages posted to that group, as well as the ability to post new messages and
reply to posted messages.
