Need to develop a quick flowchart or diagram and share it or collaborate on it with folks not using Visio? If so, then gliffy.com is for you. The flash-based user interface is very Visio-like and has all sorts of great features like versioning, web publishing, collaborative editing, exporting to common file formats, and integrated web image searching. It's worth the price of entry (free).

Stereo photography has been around a long time, but with the guidance of EdTech consultant and stereo photographer Rick Langlois, Speech and Hearing Science Professor David Kuehn and Graduate Assistant Jamie Perry have been able to use it to enrich the learning experience of the undergraduate students in their Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech Mechanism course. Professor Kuehn had long valued the use of the cadaver to teach his students genuine, dimensional, anatomy. Something they don't get looking at 2-D textbook photos. While consulting with Kuehn on the creation of a digital record of the dissections, Langlois, who was familiar with the University of Edinburgh, Scotland's 3-D anatomy views from the late nineteenth century, suggested that they update that approach with delivery of the images via the Internet. Perry, Kuehn, and Langlois have published an account of their work in the Journal of College Science Teaching, which is available at: http://www.nsta.org/main/news/stories/college_science.php?news_story_ID=53077. And, thanks to webmaster Tim Offenstein, there is also a public course web site (which is not for the "faint of heart") available at: http://www.shs.uiuc.edu/shs300/default.htm.

An assistant professor of cultural anthropology at Kansas State University has created this very cool video introduction/demonstration of the power of Web 2.0. Click to view it. Clicking a second time will open it on YouTube. It's quite interesting to compare this video to the one that it apparently responds to (linked just under the video on the YouTube page). The original video talks about Web 2.0. The response video goes beyond and seems to encapsulate and demonstrate the power of Web 2.0. Check it out to see what I mean. Besides being a creative introduction to Web 2.0, for some it may be an inspiration to consider new ways of presenting information in their courses. EdTech consultants are available and interested in helping if you'd like to explore the possibilities for your course.
