HighlightsUsing WebDAV to Upload Files to Illinois CompassDo you ever wonder if there is a faster way to upload a large number of files and/or folders to your Illinois Compass course section? Illinois Compass provides several options to designers for moving content from their desktop to their course site. Some instructors upload one file at a time, while others create a zip archive of their files and folders, upload it and let Illinois Compass unzip it. However, there is a more efficient way to upload files by using WebDAV. WebDAV stands for ‘Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning.’ It is a protocol developed to make the web a more readable and writable medium by providing the functionality to create, change, and move documents on a remote server. Illinois Compass provides built-in support for WebDAV, making it easy to use files in the File Manager as if they were stored in a local directory. When instructors access the File Manager using WebDAV, a folder is created on their desktop that enables them to drag and drop files and folders from the desktop to the File Manager and vice-versa. Using WebDAV with Illinois Compass is supported on both Windows OS and Macintosh OS (versions 10.3 and higher). To learn how to use WebDAV please visit our help resource, which offers step-by-step illustrations: http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/edtech/teaching_software/compass/files/webdav.html Featured Events iLife 06 Training

Please join us at our Fall semester Teaching with Technology Brown Bag series. This Fall we will not only have faculty from across the campus discussing how they have introduced new and innovative technology into their teaching, but Barbara Ganley will join us from Middlebury College to discuss her nationally-recognized work on blogging in the classroom. Our other speakers are Jim Witte of ATLAS who will discuss creating effective explanatory graphics for teaching; Christine Yerkes from Chemistry who will discuss her adoption of the open-source LON-CAPA online assessment system; and Cleora D’Arcy and Darin Eastburn of Crop Sciences who will present on how they have integrated magazine-style podcasts into their classes.
All presentations except for Jim Witte and Barbara Ganley’s will be held in 23 Illini Hall from 12:00 P.M. ~ 1:00 P.M. and are free and open to the public. Please see our Fall 2006 Brown Bag Series web page for more information about the presentations.
