Podcasting is taking its place among the dizzying variety of grassroots media now available to everyone. Those in higher education need to understand the potential uses and value of rich media authoring, bringing podcasting into courses so that students can lift their learning to a whole new level. PODCASTS

Podcasting is making audio or video files available online via an RSS feed so that interested users can subscribe to the podcast to receive new files automatically.  Although often associated with the use of Apple iPods or other portable MP3 players, podcasts are accessible through any multimedia computer with internet connectivity and appropriate software such as the free cross-platform Apple iTunes. Podcasts was chosen as the 2005 Word of the Year by the New Oxford American Dictionary.
