Illinois Compass Upgrade Assistant: Documentation, Software Testing, Faculty Support

CITES Educational Technologies is seeking student workers to assist with our Illinois Compass Upgrade project (Spring '07 through Fall '07). Student assistants will help EdTech professional staff compose support documentation, test and troubleshoot software features, and support staff and faculty as they upgrade the Illinois Compass system. Reliable students with expertise in one or more of the following areas are desired: writing and editing; multimedia production; graphic/web design; help desk support; training/mentoring/coaching.

Required Skills:

Ability to communicate professionally and to write clear, concise descriptions of software problems and solutions; capacity to understand technical terminology and translate into common language; ability to create and incorporate explanatory graphics in educational/training documents; strong editing skills; motivation to explore and test software; some familiarity with Illinois Compass. Ability to work 5-10 hours/week.

Additional Experience:

Experience with Macromedia Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, Robodemo or Captivate, and/or experience with streaming media, web and graphic design, digital photography and/or desktop video. Experience and interest in Web 2.0 technologies: podcasting, blogs, wikis, RSS, social bookmarking. Familiarity with both Windows and Mac operating systems and software.

Programmer/Designer

CITES Educational Technologies is seeking one student programmer/designer to assist with design and implementation of internal web and database applications. Primary responsibilities include design and implementation and testing of new styles and templates for Movable Type, and implementation and maintenance of software catalog database.

Required Skills:

Knowledge of CSS, HTML, Photoshop, SQL, Perl, Java, PHP, or other web programming skills. Ability to work 10-20 hours/week.

Additional Experience:

Previous experience with Movable Type templates and styles preferred, but not required. Experience with Dreamweaver may be useful as well.
