Coming Changes in Electronic Directory Data
This document was posted on November 21, 2003. For more recent
information, see the Update on Coming
Changes in Electronic Directory Data page.
In late December 2003, the University will switch its authoritative source
of employee data from the current payroll system to the UI-Integrate/Banner
system. Currently, employee data in the Electronic Directory (ED; formerly
known as PH) comes from the payroll system, but when the changeover occurs,
the ED will obtain employee data from Decision Support's Electronic Data
Warehouse (EDW), which will obtain data from Banner.
This page will be updated as information becomes available.

What the Changes Will Mean to You
- Employee information in the ED will not be updated from December 22
to December 29, 2003, when the University will be converting employee
data from the current payroll system to Banner. (Note that the ED itself
will still be available during that week.) As of December 29, Banner
is to become the authoritative source of employee data for the University.
- After the changeover, the ED will obtain its employee data from the
EDW. Note that the EDW data will come from the new Banner system, and
thus the format of a few data fields will be different; two fields that
we know will be different are unit code (home_dept_code)
and department name (department).
These changes will be reflected in the ED.
- The changes in data format should be of particular interest to
those who create or manage software that uses data from the ED.
If your application uses data from ED fields that are affected by
the changeover, you may need to update your application to accommodate
the new data format. (For a table relating the old and new fields,
see the Legacy and New Campus/College/Department
Codes page.)
- Note that because the ED is the source of data for other services
(such as CITES LDAP and Active Directory), changes in the ED will
affect those services as well.
- We will make every effort to have the new data coming into the ED
on the 29th of December. However, we are unable to guarantee this, owing
to the various dependencies and limitations involved (such as the very
short time line, unresolved issues regarding how the employee data will
be represented in the various systems, and the lack of opportunity for
systemwide tests between Banner, Decision Support, and, eventually,
CITES). Many factors relating to this changeover are outside our sphere
of control. As the time approaches, we will provide updates concerning
any potential scheduling difficulties or technical issues that may affect
the implementation date.

A Town Meeting
If a group of people would like to meet with CITES staff in person, we
would be happy to arrange a "town meeting" for interested individuals
to ask questions and express concerns regarding the coming changes.
