Configuring Oracle Connector for Outlook 2002/2003

Configuring Outlook Connector

Before you configure the Outlook Connector, you must have an active Oracle Calendar account and email account.

  1. Close Microsoft Outlook (if you have it open).
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and select Settings -> Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Mail icon.
  4. Click Email Accounts.
  5. Choose Add a new email account -> Next .
  6. Select Additional Server Types, and click Next.
  7. Select Oracle Connector for Outlook from the Additional Server Types list box and click Next.
    The Oracle Connector for Outlook dialog box opens.
  8. On the Calendar tab:
    • Server name: calendar.uiuc.edu
    • Account name: your NetID (i.e., jdoe)
    • Password: your Oracle Calendar password
    • Check Save this password in your password list

  9. Click on the IMAP4 tab. Enter the following information about your email account (the example settings shown are for CITES Express Email accounts):
    • Server name: express.cites.uiuc.edu
    • Account name: your NetID (i.e. jdoe)
    • Password: your Express password
    • Check Save this password in your password list
    • Click on the Advanced button, enter 993 for the Server Port, and check the box for This server requires a secure connection (SSL). Click OK.
  10. Click on the SMTP tab. Enter the following information about your email account (the example settings shown are for CITES Express Email accounts):
    • Server name: express-smtp.cites.uiuc.edu
    • Display name: Type your name as you would like others to view it (i.e., Jane Doe).
    • Email address: Enter your email address (i.e., jdoe@uiuc.edu).
  11. Click on the Startup tab:
    • Check the box next to Enable offline use if you wish to access the calendar offline.
  12. Click on the Other tab:
    • Set how often your calendar checks for new updates using Refresh Rate.
  13. Click OK to complete your connection.

 

Disabling Outlook add-ins

If you use Microsoft Outlook to view CITES Express Email (or other non-Microsoft Exhange email accounts) and Oracle Calendar, it is recommended that you disable Outlook add-ins that are specific to Microsoft Exchange to avoid conflicts with add-ins installed with Oracle Connector for Outlook. If you have a Microsoft Exchange email or calendar account, do not disable these add-ins.

  1. In Outlook, click Tools-> Options -> Other tab.
  2. Click the Advanced Options button - > Add-In Manager button.
  3. Clear the checkboxes next to the Exchange-related add-ins.
  4. Click OK.

Modifying your Outlook Connector profile

  1. Close Outlook.
  2. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on the Mail icon.
  4. Click Email Accounts.
  5. Beneath Email, choose View or change existing email accounts and click Next.
  6. Choose Oracle Connector for Outlook from the list, and click Change.
  7. The same options are available in this screen as during the setup.
  8. Once you have made any changes, click OK.
  9. Click Finish to apply your settings.
  10. Click Close to exit Mail Setup.
  11. The next time you open Outlook, your new settings will apply.
