How CITES Fits into the Campus IT Picture

Discerning the difference between CITES and other large service providers on campus can be difficult. In addition, some departments and colleges provide computer labs and other services for their faculty, staff, and students. The following summary gives thumbnail descriptions of several large service providers and what they contribute to IT on campus.

CITES (Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services)

• Serves faculty, staff, and students of the Urbana campus.
• Facilitates interaction and collaboration among IT professionals across campus by sponsoring a number of campus groups.

• Serves faculty and staff at all of the University of Illinois campuses.

Decision Support

• Provides maintenance and support of a Data Warehouse of administrative information to aid in planning, reporting, and decision making within the University.
• Serves campus units of the University of Illinois.

NCSA (National Center for Supercomputing Applications)

• Provides a high-performance computing infrastructure and serves as the lead site for the National Computational Science Alliance, a nationwide partnership of more than 50 academic, government, and business organizations.
